Terms of service
Last updated October 4, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Frequency 42 LLC (Marquette, Michigan, USA), which operates QR Code 42. By signing in to create an account, subscribing, or using the service, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you use it for a company, you confirm you can bind that company.
1. What we provide
QR Code 42 is a hosted service for product brands. Depending on your plan, it includes:
- A GS1 Digital Link resolver that sends a scan of your code to the destination you've published, by language, country, lot or serial.
- A dashboard to claim the GTINs you own and manage products, links, short links and landing pages, and an API for the same.
- Label export: the QR code with your existing UPC-A or EAN-13, as SVG or PNG artwork.
- Scan analytics (counts by day, link and country): 30 days of history on the free trial and Starter, and one year on higher plans.
- Your own brand domain on Growth and above.
- Email support at support@qrcode42.com.
What we don't provide. We don't issue GTINs, and we aren't GS1 or a GS1 member organization. We don't print labels. We can't promise that any particular retailer will accept, scan or require your code, or when a store's scanners will read 2D codes. And nothing here is legal, regulatory or compliance advice. QR Code 42 is an independent service, not affiliated with or endorsed by GS1.
2. Your account
- You sign in with an emailed link or a passkey. You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping API keys secret.
- Give us accurate information and keep your email address current.
3. GTIN claims
- You may only claim GTINs that you own or are authorized to use. Claims on the shared host are reviewed before they resolve publicly.
- If two accounts contest the same GTIN, we run a dispute process and may reject or revoke a claim, and the links attached to it, when we conclude it isn't valid.
- We don't issue GTINs and aren't GS1. QR Code 42 is an independent service, not affiliated with or endorsed by GS1.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use the service to point people at illegal, deceptive, harmful or infringing content (including phishing or malware), to misrepresent who owns a product, to evade plan limits, or to interfere with the service or other users, including by exceeding rate limits or probing for weaknesses. We may suspend or remove links or accounts that break these rules.
5. Plans, billing, renewal and cancellation
- Plans and prices are as shown on our pricing page when you subscribe. Paid plans are billed through Stripe, in advance, monthly or yearly depending on what you chose. Enterprise may be billed by invoice.
- Automatic renewal. A paid plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year, for the same period, and we charge the payment method on file, until you cancel. If we change the price of your plan we'll email you before the new price applies to your next renewal.
- Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in the dashboard (Stripe's billing portal), where you can also update your payment method and see invoices. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for, and you keep access until then.
- Changing plans. To move to a different plan, email support@qrcode42.com.
- Refunds. Fees are charged for the whole period in advance, and we don't refund the unused part of a period when you cancel, except where the law requires it or we agree otherwise in writing. If you think you were charged in error, email us and we'll review it promptly.
- Limits. If you reach your plan's GTIN limit, new claims are blocked until you move to a higher plan.
- After a cancellation or a failed payment you can't claim new GTINs or add brand hosts or landing pages, but codes and links you've already published keep resolving, because a printed label can't be recalled.
- For billing problems, email support@qrcode42.com.
6. Your content and ours
You keep ownership of what you submit (your GTIN data, links, pages and so on). You give us permission to store, process and serve it as needed to run the service, including resolving your codes to the world. We own the service itself, including its software and design. Our privacy policy explains how personal data is handled.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep the resolver fast and available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service; a service-level agreement applies only if we've agreed one in writing (for example on Enterprise). We may improve, change or remove features, and we'll try to give notice of changes that significantly affect you.
8. Check your labels
You're responsible for confirming that the labels you export scan correctly, and meet your retailers' and GS1's requirements, before you print them.
9. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
10. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, Frequency 42 LLC won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or put the service or other users at risk. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as ownership, disclaimers and liability limits) continue after termination. Email us if you'd like an export of your data or want it deleted; our privacy policy explains what happens to published codes.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in Michigan have jurisdiction over disputes, except where the law requires otherwise.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we'll update the date above, and tell account holders by email if the change is significant. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
